Nuffield Clinic Marks World Physiotherapy Day 2025 with Seniors

On 8th September 2025, Nuffield Clinic joined the global community in celebrating World Physiotherapy Day (WPTD) under the theme Healthy Ageing – Preventing Frailty and Falls. This annual celebration highlights the essential role of physiotherapy in keeping people strong, independent, and active throughout their lives, particularly in old age.

A Day Dedicated to Seniors

This year, Nuffield Clinic focused its celebration on Ghana’s senior citizens in partnership with the Association of Ghana’s Elders. The event, held at Nuffield Clinic, created a space where seniors were not only educated but also actively engaged in practical sessions that reinforced the importance of mobility and healthy ageing.

The day’s activities included:

  • An educational talk by the clinic’s physiotherapy team on the role of physiotherapy in preventing frailty and reducing falls.
  • An interactive Q&A session where seniors shared their concerns and gained practical advice.
  • Guided stretching and balance exercises to demonstrate safe, simple movements that support independence in daily life.
  • Fun activities and social interaction, making the event both informative and enjoyable.
  • A presentation of fresh fruit and vegetable baskets donated by Eden Tree, symbolizing the connection between good nutrition and healthy ageing.

A Commitment to Movement & Independence

Speaking on the occasion, the Nuffield team reiterated the clinic’s mission to be Ghana’s leading destination for physiotherapy and rehabilitation. At Nuffield, every step matters. Our goal is to ensure that people of all ages especially seniors can live freely, live fully, and enjoy the dignity of independence, the team shared.

Mr. Samuel Ayim-Aboah, Head of Physiotherapy Department expressed concern that many elderly citizens only engage in physiotherapy after sustaining injuries through falls.

He said, “In Ghana, physiotherapy is still not conceded important until there is a fracture or serious fall. Getting physiotherapy after a fall or fracture is more expensive, recovery is slow, and the risks of disability are higher.”

He further added that Ghana’s elderly face both intrinsic risks such as stroke, Parkinson’s diseases, frailty and a lot of medication use and also extrinsic risks like pore home design, disorganized living g spaces, and slippery floors.

According to him, physiotherapy addresses these factors by strengthening the muscles and improving balance. Instead of waiting for the elderly to fall and get injured, families should seek early physiotherapy assessment. This could save money, reduce hospital admissions and improve quality of life, he added.

Looking Ahead

The World Physiotherapy Day celebration forms part of Nuffield Physiotherapy Month, a month-long campaign to raise awareness about the role of physiotherapy in preventing pain, promoting wellness, and supporting healthier communities.

Nuffield Clinic remains committed to its mission: to be where pain meets hope, and where every patient’s journey is one of healing, strength, and dignity.
